Newby Questions

Working in Illustrator using the Scale-Skew-Rotate method to do isometrics, I have a couple of questions I hope (and I am sure) someone on this forum can answer. 1. How do I find the proper SSR variables if a particular detail in my drawing does not fall on the same angle/plane as the top, le...

Backup/Archive Solutions

Just curious how everyone is backing and archiving their work. Personally, my laptop has two physical drives so I can save work on one. I also use a couple of Seagate 500 GB USB drives and port everything across every few days. I copy things back and forth having Windows take care of the merging and...

Re: State of the Industry

Lyle, I checked out your architectural illustration and it is really good. Maybe the guys in that field didn't want you as competition? I think you need to follow your passion and love and the work will follow no matter what it is. Thanks Jim for the compliment! Your work is truly amazing and defin...

State of the Industry

Hi All, I am just inquiring how the state of the technical illustration industry is. I know that there are people doing many different illustrations for many different industries, but as a whole, are tech illustrators struggling to find work and make ends meet, or is the work plentiful and opportuni...

Re: Rookie

Hi Veronica. You will definitely find good advice and information here on this forum and on the website. Sounds like you have had some good luck right off the bat with some gigs. I wish I was as lucky. I agree that you don't need a degree or diploma in art to do technical illustration. I strongly be...

Portfolio Websites

Can anyone suggest or comment on portfolio websites, or what they are using? I am going to obviously register my own domain name, but I wonder about the portfolio sites out there. I am seriously considering either Behance or Cargo Collective, but not sure of which one to go with. Is it true that you...

Info-graphics inquiry

Hi all, For those doing info-graphics, I was wondering where or how you get information to do these drawings? For example, as most wouldn't know all the facts about, say, the oil well explosion/leak in the gulf of Mexico that happened a couple of years back, or how one of the space shuttle tragedies...

Re: Not worth the risk

Copyright infringement at this scale (small, compared to say, software piracy) would be fought out in civil court rather than criminal. In other words, the rights owner would have to learn of the infringement, identify the party responsible, (decide if you're worth pursuing), then sue you for eithe...
