Re: New Work

The first aspect of a job I did for VW is out, I thought I would share: http://www.hatchillustrations.com/Volkswagen-Technical-Illustration-Posters, http://www.hatchillustrations.com/Volkswagen-Technical-Illustration-Cars - I did all the cars and another artist did the backgrounds on the posters, i...

Re: Import IGES file into Illustrator

As far as I know, and it's been a while, the only things that will export clean line art are the high end cad packages and software like Right Hemisphere. I get a lot of cad data from solidworks, view it with edrawings to get my view (as I don't actually have solidworks) and then redraw. I've seen ...

Jim: Illustrator for the lineart, Photoshop for the colors. I thought the drop shadow made it look a little more 'finished', but with fresh eyes, I see what you're saying about the 'sticker' look.

Don: Great point. That adds a lot.
Looks great James!

Re: New work

Here's a spray gun that I completed recently for a woodworking magazine. I'm happy with the reflections on the handle, but I feel like the body needs something. More sharply defined reflections? Less contrast? Warm/cool reflections? I'd love to hear some feedback. I think it looks great overall Jam...

Re: line art and hatching

Me again. A line art question this time. Particularly pertaining to how best to add shadowing or "grey" areas. I know as a rule, line art should be just that....void of too much shadowing and texture. After all, line art is meant to show the concept, or idea clearly and without clutter, or without ...

Re: New work

Don, Thanks for the kind words and encouragement - always appreciated. The grey cylinders are voids (100mm dia.) filled with a rubber material. They're designed to act as vibration dampers - and also have the benefit of reducing the overall weight of the slab. I always find it amazing how much scie...

Re: New work

Hi all, As the board's a little quiet, I thought I'd put up a recent job. Not the most exciting job I've ever done, but there were some 'interesting' aspects... I think it looks wonderful Mike. You did a great job all around. Just one question. There are six parallel gray cylindrical objects in seg...

Re: Backup/Archive Solutions

I have a system that works well for me. I have a 2TB external expansion drive that I back up to every day, keeping 10 copies, the oldest replaced by newest. This runs through a USB3 cable so is pretty fast. I also have an extra 2TB internal hard drive that I back up to every Sunday. I keep 7 copies,...
