Is Tracing Illegal?

After reading a thread from one of the other posts that brought up this issue, I was wondering myself about this: Is tracing a photograph for an illustration a form of copyright violation? Obviously, if you took the photograph yourself, or if a client gave you the photograph along with permission to...

Image Resolution Issues

Hi All, Is there such as thing as standard resolutions for particular mediums? For example, 72dpi for screen, 300ppi for most printers, 1200ppi for colour separations... I am wondering at what resolution should I be drawing at if the client doesn't tell me or doesn't know themselves where the illust...

Re: 3D software for illustration / visualisation

I have been using C4D and it seems like it is the chosen 3D software for any form of technical modelling outside of arch/viz. The latest version is 13 and there are 4 different flavours with 4 different price points. It is priced competitively compared to all the other 3D apps out there. And as othe...

Re: Sales Tax issues

Thanks Don. Yes, I guess it would be a good idea to speak to the "horse" and get it in writing. Interesting how one thing is considered consulting and the other is a product.

Sales Tax issues

Can anyone suggest links for info on sales tax and income tax for freelancers as it applies to Canada? I am not sure if I should be collecting sales...

Re: Liability Insurance

I was considering starting out in architectural illustration until a couple of the "top" artists told me not to narrow my sights to just arch-viz. They also told me to get liability insurance and to incorporate. Starting out as a freelancer I thought this was a bit extreme. If you put your liabiliti...

Liability Insurance

Hi All,

Just curious, for those of you working as freelancers, do you have liability insurance? Is it a wise thing to have, or can you avoid liability successfully in your contract specifications?

Re: Anyone use SketchUp?

www.the-blueprints.com gives directions on how to set up sketchup to do models of things other than 3d spaces such as vehicles.

http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/ is the official blog site that give a lot of great info and references.

Re: Isometric Scaling

Thanks James!

Makes much more sense after "reverse-engineering" the cube.

Re: Isometric Scaling

Well, trying the tutorials it is 86.062%, but I am still unable to figure out how that number comes about. Anyone?
