Autocad Tutorials

I am currently getting Autocad. I have little experience with 3D and have never received education for it while at college. Quite honestly I was opposed to 3D software until recently. I generally just use Adobe Illustrator and occasionally Photoshop, but I want to expand my skill set to grow as a te...

Re: 3D Illustration

Have any of you tried Blender? http://www.blender.org/ A friend who works at Trion and another who works for Lucas Arts Films suggested the program... and it is free. I've been a stubborn promoter for 2D only, but am softening up and trying out 3D now- I just need to be able to afford the software l...

Re: copyright talk...

I've recently had to deal with this with the new contract work I have as a technical illustrator. The company I work for, and from what I've heard (I could be wrong), most companies will own rights to the native files. It is not necessarily a bad thing as long as you set up a contract outlining that...

Re: Favorite subject matter to illustrate - personal project

My favorite thing to illustrate are cutaways of science fiction tech. There is virtually no need, if ever, for this as a job and only recently was I starting to do a cutaway of one of my friend's exo-suit designs before a poorly prepared for computer crash and getting a contract job. I enjoy the job...

Re: The Future of this Forum?

I agree, though there may be some frustrations with the fake accounts, keeping this forum helps out a lot. My college was great for fundamental Illustration basics, but this site and the forum together have helped me prepare and are a great reference and resource for entering into the professional w...

Re: New Work

Jim, I was looking at your webpage and work. What medium did you use to produce the Automotive Exterior Illustrations? http://www.hatchillustrations.com/#2073009/Automotive-Exterior-Illustrations I should eventually have some work up on this site once again. I recently got a job as a contracted Tech...

Re: New Work

also, if you're having trouble getting the pen curser on screen to match up what you are drawing on the tablet pad- you need to go into the tablet's user preferences on the computer and align and troubleshoot the tablet. "tuning" the tablet usually isn't to difficult- if it still doesn't respond I'd...

Re: New Work

@BennOS Is a Wacom or any other tablet a necessary tool? Personally (as I've not worked as a technical illustrator anywhere near as long as the talented artists on this site have), I don't think a tablet is necessary for the majority of what technical illustrators use. However, it is a very nice too...

Re: Relocating

I know that nothing new really has been on the forum or main site for awhile and understandably considering technical illustration is a time taking work. However, I check the forum and main page daily and notice from time to time spammers getting into the forums. Is there a way to prevent this in th...
