Re: Technical Illustration Schools/Programs

Jeff, Others, who are more focused on traditional B&W line artwork, are probably in a better position to advise you on their chosen software for this. Certainly PTC IsoDraw used to be a mainstay, but I don't know if that's still the case. For me, as a more generalist illustrator, with a presentation...

Re: Technical Illustration Schools/Programs

Hi Jeff, Take these comments lightly, as I come from a self-taught background - although I have run a design and digital imaging studio for more than 25 years :) I think one of the key questions is just how you define 'technical illustration'. I think it has become a rather vague term as time and te...

Re: Technical Illustration Schools/Programs

I really don't know of any specialist technical or engineering illustration courses in the UK. Blackpool and the Fylde College used to offer an 'engineering illustration' course many years ago - but looking at their site today leads me to think that is no longer the case. I think the area falls thro...

Re: http://vantagegraphics.co.uk

Thanks guys - just got to improve the work now  Matt - that's a neat link. I've been checking the site at various sizes using the 'responsive design view' (Ctrl Shift M) in Firefox, but a real world test is always better. I spent ages looking for the 'right' theme. There was no 100% match :) In...

Re: Jim's fabulous tyre renderings :)

Jim, Thanks for that insight. Sorry I couldn't respond earlier - it was a public holiday in the UK yesterday - the weather was good too :) That makes sense - so I guess you must have had on-angle photo reference for the Dunlop tyre? Somehow I'd got into my head that you were constructing the tyre fr...

If any of you are willing to spare a few minutes - I've revised the design of my website to a 'responsive' layout - ie: one that should work on desktop, tablet or mobile - resizing and reformatting as appropriate. I've also gone to a 'portfolio on the font page' approach. That means the images are u...

Jim's fabulous tyre renderings :)

As it's a bit quiet around here, I'll ask a question that I've wanted to know the answer to for quite a while... It is directed informally to Jim - but if anyone else can chip in - don't hesitate... I'm sure I'm not alone in drooling over Jim's work... and some of my favourites are the cut-away tyre...

Re: Post Your Workspace!

Hi Martin,
As soon as I looked at your workplace images I thought - that looks like England :)
I'm not so far away from you - south Warkwickshire. Really nice work in your portfolio - it's good to see you profiled.

Hope to see you around here frequently :)

Kind regards,

Mike

Re: Hello from Calgary AB

Hi Dan - and welcome. It's great to see some new names on the forum - not that there is anything wrong with the existing ones of course :) - we could just do with some more joiners. It's a very selective high class club you know ;) I have a long and twisted background that wandered through design fo...
