Anyone use SketchUp?

I have downloaded it and played around, but that is about it. Looks like it may be good for modeling and some basic rendering. I know in my wife's field (architecture), is used quite often. My question is for you illustrators, how good of an end product can you achieve with it? Any of you used it to...

Re: Post Your Workspace!

Very nice. My workspace is where ever the kids can't get at my stuff. Hence the laptop. I need an upgraded machine here pretty quick. Using a hand-me-down from my dad. Something with a 17" screen would be nice...but I'm no longer a Mac user. I made my bed and now have to sleep in it, but I'm actuall...

Re: New Work

Hey Jim, I like your transition illustrations from wireframe to rendering: http://www.hatchillustrations.com/#2511544/Cycle-World-Gilera-Illustration Do you start with full versions of each: wireframe and fine detail, then blend them together? I imagine that might be a lot of work if you already kno...

Re: New Work

Wow, all this stuff is so impressive. I am glad I am going to school as a technical writer so that I won't have to compete with you guys :) That said, thus far my freelance paying gigs have been in the realm of illustration and graphic design; fun work if you ask me. Steven, your work is most impres...

Re: Perspective Grid with Illustrator

I finally found time to watch the entire video as well. Some great stuff. Still wish someone would tackle mapping a perspective grid to something a little more irregular than a house ;-)

Re: Perspective Grid with Illustrator

You're probably right about the inclined planes, however your screen capture did help. The angled items will take care of themselves as I have them accounted for in my side profile. Was more of an issue of where to set my grid, but you kind of found a nice "rectangular box" bellow the bench. I will ...

Re: Perspective Grid with Illustrator

Hi James, I am working on a concept for a secured cargo bag that would sit in the back bench of this truck. I have dimension for the bag, however it follows the contours of the bench. As in it is more than just a simple rectangle. The bag sit on the bench and have a section that sits down where your...

Re: Perspective Grid with Illustrator

I am struggling with this. I think if you have a clearly defined perspective and can "map" the grid to that perspective you're set. However, if you're working with some grey area and can really nail down the origin it can be difficult. It probably also has something to do with not having worked with...

Re: 3D Illustration

Thanks James. Will have to try the free trial. My hardware might hate me, but worth a try. I just landed a prospective gig that could make good use of 3D.

Re: 3D Illustration

There is a quite a difference in price between Prime and Studio. For most, would Prime suffice? Quite the price difference, but Prime seems reasonable.
