thats impressive. If you can use those softwares with ease that certainly is a good skill to have. I usually will try cheat, because Im still middle of the road on how to use the rendering systems for those softwares. So I will blend different softwares to create the final rendition.

I also like the Node base used in Blender it sort of reminds me of Photoshop tools, like soft light, multiply, blending colors, scale, translate, tinting etc.

anything to get the best Illustrations out ehere fast and with good quality. The industry is certainly shifting gotta keep up. I started back in 1997 just as frame of reference.

Are you noticing the same trend?

You may be correct, speed is valued. It's a struggle -- things take so long to do.

Here is a little glimpse into some of the art that I create for SSL. We recently had a dual launch of two of our satellites. I produced three separate animations and my coworker produced another animation while another coworker pieced together and edited the final video which was played during the launch of the two spacecrafts.
My first two animations can be seen at 0:07-0:38 and the third at 3:05-3:38. My coworker's animation can be seen at 1:20-1:40. Here is a link to the launch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiqWVfmvoW8

Great stuff abrown and Steven! Its been while since I have been here and wanted to post some new stuff: There was no 3D available on this job, just a helmet and a great art director with imagination. There is a still a place for us 2D guys in the world: http://www.hatchillustrations.com/KALI- ... ustrations

Nice stuff jhatch.
Will always be room for 2D! If not, they could get rid of me and the engineers could just output SVGs and call it a night. In my current role, I start with 3D source, export to AI and clean up from there. 3D programs are still very limited in their ability to do nice line art.

Would like to learn SolidWorks so I could quickly mock-up a 3D model to work from. In meantime I look for Sketchup models when I need a "look" to work off of.

Hi Matt
Thats what im doing most of the time now converting 3D models into EPS or SVG vector images. Its so much easier.Id defenately recommend you get started with Solidworks or AutoCAD. If you want to migrate to CATIA go with Solidworks, I cant tell you how much its helped my career. Currently Im now looking to either going to TESLA or Siemens, just waiting to see TESLA payrate and benefits.
Any suggestions on which one I should pick?
I live in California, TESLA motors is in north California
Siemens Health will be in North New York
